Wall Street to Academia
Dr. Jim Liew, founder of SoKat Consulting, blends decades of experience from leading global financial institutions—including Morgan Stanley, The Carlyle Group, and The World Bank—with rigorous academic scholarship as an Associate Professor at The Johns Hopkins University.
Over a 20-year career, Jim has crafted groundbreaking quantitative trading strategies, developed AI-driven portfolio management techniques, and successfully directed multi-billion-dollar investment initiatives, cementing his reputation as a prominent figure in the intersection of finance and artificial intelligence. His academic contributions are equally distinguished: for the past decade, Jim has taught courses in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Entrepreneurial Finance at The Johns Hopkins University, earning recognition as one of the Top 10 Quant and Finance Professors in the U.S.
In 2017, leveraging his unique dual expertise, Jim founded the AI software solutions and strategy firm, SoKat Consulting, alongside top faculty and graduate talent from Johns Hopkins University, aiming to deliver sophisticated, commercial-grade AI solutions to the U.S. Federal Government. Since then, SoKat has garnered prestigious industry awards for its impactful work in enhancing governmental mission success through AI innovation.
In 2025, building upon our work of designing and implementing advanced AI systems across government agencies, SoKat now strategically applies this expertise within the financial services sector. By intersecting rigorous academic research, finance domain expertise, and proven AI innovation, our team is distinctively positioned to guide hedge funds, banks, private equity firms and other financial institutions through the transformative landscape of next-generation FinTech.
